that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May They also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me (John 17:21 NIV)
When it comes to our identity as Christians, the Word of God has some audacious claims that, if not closely studied, could be mistaken as mere statements. The way you see the Bible determines what you’ll get from it. So, if you start looking at the Word as a mirror that shows and reveals your real identity, you’ll be amazed at the result.
That being said, let’s delve deeper into what the Word of God says about us. For starters, the Bible says we have the mind of Christ (1 Cor 2:16). Then, in another place, it tells us that our bodies are members of Christ (1 Cor 6:15, Eph 5:30). It then goes on to say that the Spirit of Christ, which is the Holy Spirit, lives in us (Acts 1:8, 1 Cor 6:20). Not only that, but it also tells us that the Word of God is in our mouth and heart (Rom 10:8). Last but not least, we have the nature of God (2 Pet 1:4). So, if we have the same mind, speak the same words, share the exact same nature, share one body, and share the same thoughts with Christ, who are we?
The Bible says, ‘He who is joined to the Lord is ONE spirit with Him.’ Moreover, the Word of God tells us that we are in Him and He is in us. We are inseparable from Christ. And to top it all off, the Bible says we are His body members, His hands, feet, etc. Just as any of our body parts are inseparable and interchangeable with our identity, we also are interchangeable with Christ. When someone points at Christ and says, ‘There is Christ,’ that person is also pointing at the hands, the feet, etc., and the Word of God tells us that that is us. So, begin to walk with this understanding that, in every place you enter, Christ has entered. Every person who encounters you is encountering Christ. You are one with Christ!
For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. (Eph 5:30 KJV)
Then he fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” (Acts 9:4 NKJV)
