In many instances in life we may find ourselves being crippled by the what if dilemmas. Where it seems like you are on the edge of uncertainty and you might fall into the depths of unbelief. The disciples of Jesus were seen to ask him if he didnt care if they drowned. And for context they have been with him while he was doing miracles and healing others. However they didn't think he would extend the same compassion to them. But Jesus rose from his sleep and rebuked the sea and them.Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm. Matt 8:26
If we are being honest, it was a valid question. The seas were threatening their lives and there was Jesus, their savior, sleeping soundly in the back. Like the disciples we may face situations, thoughts, family problems, work problems, or habits we might struggle with, and in the midst of all these, it is easy to fall into the trap of doubting your salvation.
When the apostle Paul writes to colossians he tells them to stand firmly in the truth of their salvation…he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News… Col 1:22-23 NLT. The apostle Paul was striving to develop their confidence in their salvation, making them to be 100 percent sure in their salvation obtained through Christ. (I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. Col 2:2 NLT )
Further down in the verse he tells them to be careful that no one might deceive them with well-crafted( fine-sounding) arguments. Anything that causes you to doubt your salvation is a LIE. You were bought at a price, one that is irreversible and irrevocable. It has granted us a right standing with God and eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
So whenever doubt starts creeping in using life’s situations as an excuse, stand on the word of God and reject those lies. You are a prized child of God bought through the precious blood of jesus. Never forget that.
Col 2:4 NLT I am telling you this so no one will deceive you with well-crafted arguments.
Rom 5: 4-5 NLT: …strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
Rom 5:21 NLT: So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
